PEACE POGODA (SHANTI STUPA)

On a hill over looking the lake is the world, a Buddhist stupa built in 1996 and is another favourite spot for anyone who fancies a short hike. Once on the top, you can enjoy the amazing views of mountains, the lake and the city. There is a local bus service that runs up the road to the stupa, from the Kalimati bus stand on the road Butwal

Although there is a regular local bus up to Kali Mati then 40 minutes walk to the Peace Pagoda, many prefer to take the short walk up to the top. There are two min routes:

The lakeside route (approx 1 hour): Boatmen charge about Rs 250/- to ferry passengers across from Lakeside to the start of the trail on the opposite shore. From here, the path leads straight up through the woods on some stone steps  to the pagoda on the top of the ridge.

The scenic route (approx 2 hours): A more interesting route starts from either Devi’s Falls or a small footbridge, just south of the Phewa dam. It skirts the edge of some padi fields before climbing up through the forest and following the west ridge up to the Pagoda. Follow the sighs and watch out for leeches!
