MUSIUM IN POKHARA

1. International Mountaineering Museum: (Opening Hour: 9am-5pm)

    This massive museum houses information on mountains, prominent mountains climbers. ecology, geography, about the mountain inhabitants and exhibitions of the techniques and equipments etc. Its also has an informative exhibition on the environmental impact of climbing these heights and documents a series of exhibitions aimed of cleaning up the Everest (Sagarmatha) region. Outside is a restaurant, shop and Gurung Village 'living museum'. It is located 1.5 km south from the airport. 


2.   Pokhara Regional Museum: (Opening Hours: 10am-4pm Closed on Tuesday and holidays), Telephone : 520413

            Located 2kms north from airport and 1km south from Mahenda pool at Naya Bazar. This museum reflects the ethnic culture of the western Nepal and more specially that of the indigenous inhabitants of the Pokhara Valley. The lifestyle and the history of the ethnic groups are attractively displayed in this museum including detail on the mysterious beliefs held by the former population. There is an extra fee for cameras.



3.   Gorkha Memorial Museum: (Opening Hours: 8.00 am - 4.30pm,
Closed on Wednesdays), Telephone: 541966. 

              It lies aprox 8km from north from Airport near K.I Singh Pool, at Deep Pokhara. Because of the fact that the city has long been a recruiting centre for the Army’s fearsome Gurkha regiments, a museum was set up in the premises of British Camp. It is a tribute to those veterans who have won numerous accolades (including many Victoria Crosses) serving throughout the word in the British, Indian and Singaporean armed forces. It has wide ranges of collection of used uniforms, photographs, medals and many other materials used by those courageous soldiers.


4. ANNAPURNA NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM (ANHM):
Annapurna Musium, Prithivi Narayan Campus, Pokhara

   This museum was established in 1965 with the purpose of drawing students and visitor’s attention towards the diverse of Nepal’s flora and fauna. It is located within the complex of Prithivi Narayan Multiple Campus at Bagar-1 Pokhara. It is a unique museum that offers a rare collection of nearly 90% of the 640 species of butterflies. Beside such a precious collection of butterflies, this museum does offer a large collection of wildlife, plants, insects and birds. The museum attracted the attention of some well known scholars and well wishers alike. Among them the names of Dorothy and Colin Smith are unforgettable. The large collection of butterflies in the museum has much scientific importance and attracted so much attention that this museum was nicknamed “The Butterfly Museum.” Butterflies have been duly categorized in different environments and climates. The museum has also interesting collection of various species of moths and tropical insects.
